Rue de Bouchers - Brussels

Rue des Bouchers is one of the most characteristic pedestrian streets of Brussels. It is known as Brussels’ belly, due to the numerous cafés and restaurants offering all types of local and international cuisine: Italian, Greek, Chinese and Indian. Many restaurants exhibit their fish delicacies on the windows surmounted by tons of ice.

Rue de Bouchers

Ever since the medieval age this was the street of meat sellers (bouchers), hence the name Rue de Bouchers. Still today the street is overlooked by decorated portals, tympana and façades dating from the XVII century. In 1960 the municipality declared this area a sacred island (Ilot Sacré). Moving forward along the street we get to Impasse de la Fidelité, where a curious statues raised in 1987 stands: the Jeanneke Pis , a sort of ironic version of the Manneken Pis, representing the equality of sexes.
